Atlanta Pet Fair

It was March of 2001 and Director,  Jennifer Orelik was more then excited. She had practiced for some time and had attended many competitions to get the feel for things. She showed her own black miniature poodle Deja. Jennifer bought her first pair of nice scissors and did she ever get the use out of them. She scissored all of Deja that day and it was worth it. While they were announcing placements Jennifer Orelik’s name was called, she received third place. This is a great way to start off a showing career.

Not long after the Atlanta Pet Fair Jennifer entered to compete with her Lakeland Terrier, Razby. She still handstripped her at the time and went into the ring with a full coat of hair. When her 2 hours were up, she looked beautiful. Razby’s jacket laid flat and she was stunning. The two of them together took 1st place.

March of 2004 Jennifer took her poodle to the Arlington Park Race Track. There they competed in the novice level, and took 1st place.

August of 2004 Jennifer and an old time friend Heather Marcordes, competed in the creative styling competition. They decided to create the Egyptian beetle which they carved into the hair on the back of the dog, Breet, who they were competing with. Jennifer and Heather colored the majority of Brett yellow, since the Egyptian beetle represents the sun god and his head black in-order to match the Egyptian look. The main body of the beetle was a teal green with blue wings and black arms that held the gem. All the color was created with artist chalk and set in after we cut the pattern in. To sketch in the pattern it took the two of us measuring and parting the hair to insure that it was all even and balanced on both sides. Once the pattern and color was completed, next came the decorating. They outlined the patternin gold glitter, painted Brett’s nails gold and placed a head piece on his head. Now it was their turn to get ready. Both Jennifer and Heather wore Egyptian dresses and black wigs to match Brett the best they could. In the showroom they set up props to create “CleoPETra”, this theme and the hard work done on Brett as Cleopetra won them 1st place.

The following year Jennifer and Heather were at it again. This time they were making Brett into the “Snow Queen”. The same artistic type of chalk and glitter were used, but this time a snowflake was the pattern cut on his back. They used feathers to enhance Brett’s look, as well as headpiece to add flair and creativity. Jennifer and Heather again dressed the part and had props to create the perfect setting. They had a great time with the unique pattern they created.
